NorCal crowned their 2011 944-Spec Champions with a awards luncheon followed by a competitive go kart race.

Congratulations to Steve Lewis, Ron Dale and Jerry Whitteridge!

NorCal's awards luncheon always features a lot of food but this year we had a unusually large amount of desserts.  There were at least three different kinds of cheesecakes, four or more pies plus brownies and cookies.  It's almost a conscious or unconscious attempt to fatten your competitor up for that power to weight ratio advantage before the go kart race.

Kart Group

We were very happy to have Art from AutoPoint and three new faces and future 944-Spec racers Darin, Mark and Mike join us for our luncheon and race.   The kart race format was practice/qualifying, grid by qualifying time with a green flag drop from a standing start.   My son Jonathan took pole with Rick Lofgren second and me third.  Ten of our racers took the green and it was every bit as competitive as our race cars.  I had a hard time adjusting my seat to move it up closer to the pedals so I just flip down the pedal extenders which came back to haunt me on lap 8 when I braked for Turn 3 and the pedal extender folded up.  I overshot the apex and that's all that was need for Aubie to get by me in a tight race.  I was fortunate enough to hang onto fourth with the rest of pack behind me.   Jonathan and Rick had a great duel with Jonathan just inching out a win.

Great food, friends and fun as we close out 2011 and prepare for the 2012 season.
