Toyo RR Consumer Advisory - please read! 11 years, 11 months ago #14771

Folks,

Toyo has issued a Consumer Advisory on the RR tires.

The basics of this issue, as they apply to R compound tires generally, is explained here:

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tiretech/techpage.jsp?techid=160

Toyo's Consumer Advisory is here:

It can also be found on Toyo's website here:

Here are some questions I have had answered:

1. Are these recommendations permanent?
-Yes, they are expected to be, though active R&D with regard to this issue is ongoing.

2. Does the drive axle recommendation apply to our low HP cars?
-Yes

3. What happens if my tire starts to show seam separation?
-Contact your dealer to evaluate the tires for warranty replacement.

4. Are we proceeding with the switch to RR's as planned
-Yes

5. Can I still rotate my tires?
Yes, keeping the orientation guidelines in mind. For our cars diagonal rotation (i.e LF to RR, RF to LR) would work.

6. Are all date codes affected?
At this time, that appears to be the case. I don't know of any current production changes, though R&D continues.

Guys - I looked at over 30 used RR's at the 25 hours. John Lindsey & I were digging in the stacks of used rubber next to AIM at Thunderhill like a couple of prospectors. We found no splits in the RR's there, so the mounting instructions seem to be helping this situation, while Toyo continues to do some R&D on this.

Does anybody know of a vendor in the Texas/Oklahoma/Louisiana Region that isnt Tire Rack and has RRs? I like to buy from one of the smaller guys but they are all in the outlying regions.

This is after a less than 30 minutes race, conditions were mud in places, gravels in some places, standing water and maybe half of the track was dry.

The one on the right was on the the Front Passenger side and the other one was on the Rear Driver side.

I used the race to heat cycle.

What to do?
