Does anybody have any experience with these? I've seen them ranging from $50 to $200 and have no idea where to put my money.

Thanks- Marc

Customs are the way to go. Really cuts down on outside noise, are more comfortable than foamies and sound better.

I know a few friends from flight school that went the custom molded route and they loved it. We use an earplug now that has a speaker in it so it both cuts down on outside noise and pipes in ICS and radio chatter much more clearly. I dont wear ear plugs in my race car cuz normally its not that loud, but since Ive started driving in traffic much more, Ive noticed that has more of an effect so I might switch to wearing ear plugs. Ive never had an issue with cheap foamies, but they aren't very durable. The generic reusable ear plugs that have been size fitted and look like an acorn have worked much better when I remember to grab them.

Anybody have the Sampson Racing ones? Any other suggestions on a vendor for these?

Yes I use the Sampson ones. They work great and Shawn and Morgan are easy to deal with.

You do have to pour the mix into your ear to get the impression. It feels weird and it is only for a few minutes as I recall.

It takes a couple of weeks to get the final product back and you also get the impressions back if you need to make another pair.

I, too, use the Sampson kit. While I so hate to admit it, Mr. Buzzetti is correct about Shawn and Morgan. Great peeps. They support us racers and have earned my support with their radio knowledge. They helped us at Nationals to expand our radios with a third rental radio for Lil'Kat's father as crew and it worked out great.

Another thought too. I got Lil'Kat a Stilo helmet from Shawn that has ear cups built in. She loves them and they are very comfortable for her. The helmet was more expensive than the one I purchased but she does not need to spend money on the custom molded ear plugs and one less thing to remember to get into the car and to put on and hook up. I will be going that route in the future.
