Anyone know what this is and whether it is required? It seems to be connected at one end to the clutch housing and the other end was just clamped to the top of the intake manifold. I did some research and the only image I found similar was from a 928 flywheel sensor.

Dealer reference sensor for diagnostics only. No you do not need it.
