TOPIC: We're starting the process!!!

We're starting the process!!! 15 years, 5 months ago #5120

I have owned a 944 or 951 (or both) since 1982.

My son is in college, so it is time for us to go racing. We got our junker '84 and are ready to build. Both of us have to go to driver's school, so we are not in a great hurry to be competitive, just safe.

Bad news, I sold my 9201 tool about two years ago. How does everyone tension their timing belt?

Thanks,
Michael

i was told to tighten it up to be able to give it a twist so that it can go just to 90 degrees.
the manual says you need the special (expensive) porsche tool that you had, but its worked on my car this past season.

i would like to know what others do as well, since i am not going to buy that tool, but i do now have a spare motor.

Where are you at? A bunch of us around the country have tensioning tools, or access to one, so we should be able to help you out! Welcome!

Thanks for the warm wishes!

Okay - took a quick look at the car and I think we will have to do this in stages. I want to get the car safe and running and start the DE events that will get us licensed. If we can get that done in 2009/2010, we should be able to race by 2010/2011.

So far, I need:

Two seats - I am not picky
Seatbelts- stock would work for DE, I imagine
Complete suspension
Cookie Cutters - the ones he had on there should work for DE

Does anyone have any ideas? This is an extremely low budget project for now.

Thanks for any help!
