I recently got a Corbeau FX-1 seat...it isn't FIA stickered. Can I run it with a seat back brace? or is this seat not legal for spec racing at all?

There is no requirement for FIA certification. Only if it is not FIA certified (and mounted to the FIA specs) then the seat requires a seatback brace. Once FIA certified seats are out of their cert window then they too need a seat back brace.

That is correct.

All seats must use seat back braces. However seat that are FIA certed and current in the cert (ie less than 5 years) may be run without a seat back brace.

So the rule says everyone needs a brace except for certain ones.

I don't know if the seat you mention is tube frame or not, but I do not suggest a tube frame set. Get fully composite shell or aluminum.

Which seat you get depends on what you like.

Also if the seat has wings for head support you are not required to run a side net. If you do not have side wings for the head you need a right side net too.

That is a fiberglass shell seat so you are good to go if using a back brace.

Great to hear. I ordered a seat back brace from IO Port. I already have a right side net as well.

The IO port brace is a little small for a fiberglass seat. I suggest installing a much larger plate 12x12 or on the face of the 3x6 IO Port brace. This will better distribue the loads the brace will see. Plus do not drill the fg seat to attach the brace. The brace will be free standing and the seat will push into it in an impact. This pushing back will support the seat.

Metal seats are bolted to the brace, but composite seats are not.
