TOPIC: Bennington Motorsports building a Spec Car for '09

Bennington Motorsports building a Spec Car for '09 16 years ago #2728

Hey guys, welcome Nick from Bennington Motorsports -

He has started his build page here, and will be racing with us in '09:

http://www.benms.com/racing.html

Nick will be a great resource for us as a Porsche 944 specialist.

He will soon be putting an LSD in the one of our transmissions to go into either my car or Angel Blasquez - very reasonably!

Nick is well known for his support of the 944 community on Pelican Parts, and will now be extending the same support to the 944 community here in the Midwest (or even nationally!)

Thanks Eric.

I am also extending an invitation to the Midwest Spec group to the yearly gathering I hold at the shop. It happens every year in August. Since I wasn't a part of the Spec community last year, it was held on the same weekend as Mid-Ohio
SO... This year I will be planning around the Spec calender as much as possible.

To the list of hands on demonstrations this year, I think I will add "swapping a set of 5th gears" and "swapping a differential" Planning for the event will begin in January, as soon as I have a firm date planned I will let everyone know. Gethering information can also be found on my website.

Cheers!
-Nick

Well, I had a tight schedule today at the shop, but I had a few minutes to shoot some extra paint out of the gun. You can't really tell from the pic, but the lower portion of te tu-tone is a black metallic, (also put first coat of guards on the driver door) eventually the nose pannel and the center of the hood will be painted with the black met. as well. I started figting with the steering box yesterday, that's a whole other story! I'm not sure if the car was in DEEP standing water for a while or what, but the inside of the steering box was filled with rust instead of grease

Just keepin' on keepin' on I guess

-Nick

Ok, so I have all my Delrin bushings ready for installation, but thought I would ask a couple of questions before I install them next week.

First on the springs:
What weight and or mfgr. does anyone suggest?

Second is on the drop links:
I have built several chassis over the years for non Porsche comp. cars, so I have tons of chrome-moly tube and rod ends. Can I replace the rear drop links, or do I have to stick with the factory units?

Third, a seat:
Any seat recomendations? Also, are the standard seat mount points viable, or should I build up a seat support between the tunnel and outer "seat well" edge?

Fourth, spare tire well:
For legality, can the tire well be cut for trans clearance, or should I deform it?

I think that's most of the questions for now, I'm sure more will follow.

Thanks,
Nick
