Guys, I am starting to strip and need to know where I am starting from. I have an 86' with all the options.

I have looked up the weight and found three answers that are significantly different. They range from:

2637# to 2822#

Obviously there is quite a difference there!

HELP!

Just take out everything that doesn't make it go, and is legal. If you go under weight, you can add ballast where you want it.

I am more concerned about not getting down to weight with my street/strip car. I am wanting to do what is free (removal) and minimize doing things that cost money.

I am working on a comprehensive weight per item spreadsheet which when done will be shared with the group. It breaks down each and every item I take off with exact weight down to the gram. It may be of little use to many but for those that dont want to say, gut the dash, can add up the rest and see what they will end with.

Obviously the starting weight is important and I do not have scales.

Go to a local scrap metal place. They have scales and will weigh you for $5 or so.

The car is in pieces so that is tough and will not tell me my starting point.

Weights varied a lot depending on the spec of an individual car, and you won't be able to reconstruct an accurate starting weight at this point. The best you can do is weigh what you take out & put in, and weigh the car when you are done to back track to the original weight.
