When I got my first 944 we had a deconstruction party. The parts were flyin' off the car. When it was time to reassemble, I had help. Now I've gone out and bought another 944 for a parts car and I'm tearing it down. I see some parts that I don't what they are and what they do or did since they're not on my race car. Pleas help me to identify these parts and what they do. This 944 is an 83.

Both parts are part of the vacuum system

Hey bud,
The first is the equivalent of a warm up valve. Porsche calls it an Aux air valve in some of our cars and a idle stabilizer , or something like that, in others. Basically, it has a bi-metal thermal contact inside that tells the DME, "I'm cold, give me more air and fuel until I warm up."

The second pic is another air valve that opens when you turn on the A/C. That kicks up the idle to help prevent stalling because of the extra load of the A/C compressor. We call it the a/c kicker valve.

In a racing 944, you can delete both of these. It may make your car harder to warm up.

Thanks!
I have one more please......
You can see the smaller wire wrapped around the larger wire and it connects to something going in the block. Some kind of sensor but it's not the water temp. sensor. What is it and what does it do??

That's the input (sensor) for the temp gauge on the early cars. A single wire goes to the needle on the gauge. Later cars have two wires, one for the gauge, one for the idiot light.
