+1 on the high-zinc oil. I've only used Rotella T Synthetic in both of our engines.
The late '87 and the '88 pans have the good pan AND factory baffle, however a supplimental trapdoor baffle will provide added insurance. If I had to choose between cross-drilling the crank and extra baffling, I would choose the baffle.
