Hi Everyone,

I am looking a few prepped cars and one the difference is the cage type.
Does anyone have an opinion on is one better and another Both
seem to be bolted to partial welded. I know a custom cage is better.

I have an Autopower cage and a buddy of mine has a Safety Devices. His fits MUCH better than mine and I have more room in his car than mine too. If not custom, I would lean towards the Safety Devices cage. HOWEVER, make sure that the cage is CCR compliant. There are a few out there that are not.

Autopower cages are generally designed to fit with the interior mostly installed, so there will usually be some gap... You can do some adjusting when you install it, but that has it's limitations. That said, I'm happy with mine.

I have the autopower with stripped interior. For the price, I'm satisfied.
The biggest problem I have is with the horizontal bar across the top of the windshield. It's just in a wierd spot, too low to use a wink mirror, and too far back, it gets in the way getting my helmet on/off.
There are some gap issues when interior is gone, but I felt a little uncomfortable with the cage's small floor mounting plates so I added wider 1/4" sandwich plates under the cage's feet. So the gap actually worked out OK because it allowed me room to reinforce.
Would have been nice if the 2nd door bars already had the stubs welded on, they say it's "included" but you get it and it's just pre-cut. Getting that welded was a pain.

I paid $600 for my cage, it was new, previous owner never finished his car. I then took it to my fabricator who put in the 2nd door bar for $75. For the money, it can't be beat.

Before I went custom, I tried a Safety Devices bolt-in. It fit very well for a bolt-in and had some good features. However, the harness bar (the horizontal bar in the main hoop) and diagonal bar in the main hoop are not NASA CCR compliant.
