I've sourced a low mile (then again they all say they are low mile...) 1988 engine. It comes with wiring harness and dme.

Is there any significant difference (engine mapping, etc) between an 84 DME and an 88 DME? Enough so that I need to pull the old wiring harness and drop this one in.

If there is then I have to source a second DME for the 88 engine as I always want a spare DME at the track.

Thanks,
Brent

Brent, posted up on Rennlist before I saw this here. Short answer is no, but you must match up the AFM (and some would say the injectors as well) to the computer. For spare purposes to the '88 ECU, any 85.5 + DME will run the car OK.

So if I run the 84 AFM and 84 injectors I can stick with the 84 DME and be okay?

Thanks for the response.

The 88 DME adds at least 17 rear wheel horses with properly matched with the correct bits and pieces. At least, that is what the dyno said on my 88.

Of course, I have some great land in Florida as well.

Pretty sure. In know Joe Paluch has gone between early & late motors with little difficulty.
