TOPIC: A-arm rebuild?

Re:A-arm rebuild? 16 years ago #782

For the ball joint it does not make any differece how they are replaced as long as you don't use the longer pin. You can use a 19 mm pin if you want to. Reliablity is more important that any perception of performance gain here.

I did my own rebuild and it was quite easy. Remove factory epoxy/glue from bottom side. I used a screw driver and then a bristle cup rotary brush (metal). Measure down from top to snap ring (appox 1/4") Take 1/8" drill and drill from outside to snap ring end. Take small punch and knock snap ring out of groove. Remove snap ring with small needle nose pliers. Remove old ball joint, clean area and inspect for damage to aluminum control arm (cracks etc.) Install new kit. Epoxy over new snap ring. You will need a press or large C-clamp. Instructions were easy to comprehend. Total rebuild time was 45 min for both once removed from car. These new joints are servicable.
