I bought the lindsey racing A/C delete. It is nice.
It said for all 944s. But... did not say on their website that it is for 85.5 and on.Mine is an 84. After talking to them they will take the belt back.

I cannot find a belt at any local parts stores that fit.
Was looking for a K5x720. apparently the belts are different from pre 85. I did not know. learning every day.

Do I need to change the alternator and pulley
or has anyone found a belt to work. Searching internet now.

i think the only difference is the width of the belt. changing the belt would be the first choice. alternately, you could change the alt pulley or the alternator to get the wider pulley. if you go to the later alternator you may have to change out the long pivot bolt or get bushings for the ac delete bracket. the late alt uses an 8 mm bolt and the early uses 6mm. interestly, the 924s alt uses the wide pulley with the 8 mm pivot bolt.

i would think you should be able to get the belt from a local supplier though.

You can use the 5 rib belt on 6 rib pullies. However you need to make sure the belt is aligned straight. If is not perfectly straight it will tear itself to pieces very fast. Clearly you can't use a 6 rib belt on 5 rib pulley.

The spacers Rick mentioned can be used to get the pully lined up.

I ordered a belt from my local Napa. They got it in a day. put on worked good so ordered a Second. Was a small belt at 28.5 inches.

Did you order the k5 x 720 size belt oir something different?
Don't happen to have an order number do you?
I am about to put my engine back in and I will have a Lindsey's a/c delete bracket. I have the belt they sent me. My motor is a 1984 also.
