TOPIC: NEW CAR BUILD

Re: NEW CAR BUILD 13 years, 11 months ago #9415

You may already know this, but I missed it during my wiring. The fuel level sensor turns on the low level warning light by shorting the + to ground when the float goes to empty. In other words, you need a light bulb in the ground wire to the level sensor or you'll short the circuit when the tank level sensor reads empty.

Ask me how I know

I first thought my level sensor was messed up so I tried a different one and got the same thing. That's when I had the duh moment regarding the dash light.

No, I didn't know. I'll tell Dave, maybe he can install a resister instead of a light bulb.

Well Dave finally got here and started right in. He moves so fast his hands are just a blur.

Dave ran some wires for the Traqmate sensor so I installed it but the wires still need to be hooked up.

Did i miss the part about scrapping the wiring harness?
Or are the lights/fuel etc...just modified from the old one?

Just curious. I am rewiring an old Triumph TR6 and it's a lot of work.
But then it's street legal so i need back up lights etc...
For my 944 i want to keep it street legal also so i can drive it to the track. No room for a trailer in my neighbourhood. Plus it's just my wife and I and we already have 4 cars. All we need is a trailer and truck to park on the street. Neighbours already hate me. I know, more info than you needed. I am really interested in the wiring though. My car has far too much branches that need to be trimmed.

Yes you did. Back on page 1. All the stock wiring is GONE! If your gonna' drive it on the street, I'd keep the stock wiring and not mess with it.

I would move the DME. That spot could get water damage. When racing or just due leaks you can get water in the pass floor area. You don't want that water getting into the DME.

Thanks, I can mount it up off the floor with spacers. Does it need to be rubber mounted to isolate it from vibration??

Turning my attention to the engine compartment, what a mess!

I scored a manual steering rack from an 83 for $200.

PIC_7243.JPG

Removed the power steering one. I'll clean it up later and eBay it.

PIC_7250.JPG

Cleaned the engine compartment up a bit and wiped it down with Acetone.

PIC_7252.JPG

Installed the manual rack and gave the engine compartment a shot of satin black.
