TOPIC: Another Texas build project started

Re: Another Texas build project started 13 years, 1 month ago #10170

Easy there, Big Dog.

Remember, my day job is being a physician, I run a halo seat, and am not very tall . This is not rule change season, and this will go through the process at years end like everything else.
The things I see so far here are reasonable, and well intentioned, IMO.

It does raise the issue, however, and an advisory not to get carried away with this is reasonable as well.

Thank you Big Dog for bringing this up.

Thank you Erik for seeing it for what it is.

Safety first, rules only if really needed.

If we are seeing guys trying to take advantage of this anomoly then by all means lets do something about it.

But so far it does not appear to be a problem.

Lets not make rules based on fears that somebody might do something.

It has been a while since I posted anything on the build. Between work and my back, things have been slow as of late.
But I did spend some time buying some parts and getting the oil cooler situated.

New brembo front rotors showed up (may have to but a second set as spares)

Screened in the oil cooler

and installed it in the right front, where the PS cooler/ws washer tank used to be

I may make some adjustments on its location. It will get good air here, but will cause me to run the right brake duct from the left side. After I installed it, I saw a picture of how Charlie had installed one above mine, with some sheet metal removed to make some space. May look into that.

Its hard to tell from your photos, but a good idea would be to have a bracket that supports it from the bottom

There is an aluminum bracket on each side that is bolted to the mounts on the car (top mounting brackets of the OC) and to the mounts on the bottom of the oil cooler. I also used these Al brackets for attaching the screen front and rear.

I have mine in the same spot and regret it a bit. It is just very low and vulnerable in that spot. Nothing has happened but I would prefer to move it up. I may get to it one of these days.
