Rules Change Request Period is open for 2013 rules 11 years, 6 months ago #14168

Guys, it is that time again, to go over the rules, and see what needs, updating, has evolved, or future problems that may prompt rewording of the rules.

Reasoning for change MUST include at least 1 of the following:
---------->a) Will decrease series cost because…
---------->b) Will increase series growth because…
---------->c) Will improve competition because…
---------->d) Will provide more clarity because...
---------->e) Will improve reliability because...

HINT – Requests which score points in multiple categories will have better chances of being accepted than those which score points in 1 category (or worse yet, go against the reasonings above.)
Notice that "this will work out better for me" is not on the list!

Two things to keep in mind:

Lets keep this civil. We are all passionate about this sport, but rules change requests and respnses need to be kept practical, and level headed. Personal attacks, or inappropriate comments will be moderated.

Try and keep the big picture in mind. For example, a particular rules change might makeyour new build easier/cheaper/faster. However, if it causes the rest of the class to have to go back and redo something on all of their cars, it may not be the best thing for the class as a whole. The "burdon of proof", so to speak, is on the new proposal, not justifying the existing rules.

Raise Min Weight to 2700#

---------->a) Will decrease series cost because need to use expensive mods already allowed within the rules will decrease such as lexan windshields and lightweight dashes, buying non-sunroof roof sections, custom cages vs. simple mailorder etc.. further it will take less time (time=$$$) to prepare a 944 to be competitive (not having to remove undercoating etc..).

---------->b) Will increase series growth because cars that might be able to compete but must remain street legal for financial or other reasons will have more ability to do so and make the series open to more potential drivers. Further the reduced time and money needed to convert a car will be more attractive.

---------->c) Will improve competition because those that choose to spend less money and time will still be able to reach min weight and this will better equalize the field with more cars being the same.

Thank you.

Allow use of cooling fan(s) for oil coolers if desired.

---------->a) Will decrease series cost because custom and/or expensive oil coolers will not be necessary in order to lower oil temps and fans are plentiful, cheap, and easy to install. Further it is far easier to place a small fan on an oil cooler in a easy to place location than to fabricate complex ducting to provide air.

---------->b) Will improve reliability because oil temperatures can be better controlled especially in hot and or hot/high locations where many cannot maintain reasonable oil temperatures. Further the other reliability issues such as rod bearings, head gaskets and other engine wear can be reduced with better oil temperature control.

Make an addition to the sunroof clause allowing a similar aluminum piece to be screwed over the headlight covers.

1) This would increase series growth as the headlight covers are nearly always an eysore on 944's. Potential new racers would see much better looking cars and be more likely to join.

2) decrease series cost by allowing more time and money to care for the car in other areas

3) most importantly improve competition by adding more cars at nationals. We have 4 cars in Rocky Mountain region with the plates. This weekend we are mounting them on a 5th. In addition several other guys have asked us to make some for them.

They really do make the cars look much more like race cars!

+1 for the headlight covers. They look much better this way, and it's cheap.
