Why are 924 turbos not legal? They're legal in the 944 cup but I live in Northern CA and it seems that 944 spec is the only game in town. I just picked up a 1980 924 turbo and I want to come out and play!

What are the stats of a 924 turbo? How much does it way, what kind of horsepower and is it early 924 suspension or 944 suspended?

The series 1 cars (1979,1980) weigh about 2780lbs and have 143 hp. They have early 944 style suspension. The standard cars have 4 lug wheels, non vented front rotors and rear drums. 5 lug wheels and 4 wheel disc brakes were optional on the series 1 cars and standard on the 1981-1982 series 2 cars.

Welcome! The spec concept is just that, we don't have weight allowance for 924 turbos, 944S, 944S2, 944 turbos, etc. If you have a racing license and your 924 turbo is race ready I can arrange to have you run with our group. Your car can't score 944-Spec season points or eligible for 944-Spec contingencies/awards but you can run with us for fun. Isn't all racing fun!

Ok, thanks! My 924 is still a street car and I'm trying to decide on building it or getting into something else.

While on paper, the 924T seems pretty close, adding a whole different motor to the series complicates things a great deal. Turbo are also very hard to regulate (PCA has big problems with this), and things change with altitude relative to NA cars.

924 Turbo parts are becoming more rare and expensive, so overhaul/running costs would be higher. I think you be better off starting with a 924S/944 in the long term in any case, due to those issues.
