Unfortunately, these would not be legal for 944 Spec.

Actually they would be. 88 pistons from a european 924S are in fact the same 10.2:1 pistons we use in the USA. 87 924S euro pistons are the same 9.5:1 pistons we use in the USA. It is the 82-87 944 Euro pistions that are 10.6:1 and not USA legal.

DME computer would depend on the numbers on the box. Not 100% sure of the computer was identical or not for 88. I kind of think it was. I know ones for 10.6:1 pistons would not be legal.

It comes from a 1987 924S and is 10.2:1 pistons ...

???

87 924S for all markets had 9.5:1 pistons. These are the USA pistons. Onyl in 1988 did every car get 10.2:1 pistons.

I don't believe their is any way to distingush a 9.5:1 piston that came in a euro car vs a one that was in a USA car. Same for 10.2:1 pistons. However the 10.6:1 are clearly identifiable and are not legal in 944-spec.

A few more things would be helpful:
1) The pictures you mentioned
2) Measurements of the pistons to assess wear
3) The part number of the Motronic ECU

What are your plans for the 924S?

Hi,

Not sold yet

1) this week end i begin to clean them and be busy so pics are coming just now :

for information :

2) I only have a caliper... i will try to do some mesurements.

3) It is still in the car, i will take photos later, it's the right one for this pistons (88 model). I will takes photos when i'll have time.

The plans for the 924s is to swap a 951 engine... i have one with full parts, motronic, plombing... but it's blown, so i rebuilt one in the 924s bloc (with 951 rods pistons, valves...)

DME are specific on 88.

Those are the right pistons. Sorry for the misinformation initially. The wear limits are pretty tight on these pistons. I'd be interested to see what the thrust side of the pistons looks like. If the machining marks aren't worn down, that's a good sign they will still be in spec. This would be hard to measure well enough with just a caliper - a close up of that area may be better.

Do you have the part number of the motronic?

Sounds like you're building a fun race car! Keep us posted on how it goes.

I can see why you would want to sell these over here, in Europe, most cars had the 10.6:1 pistons, and this would not be an upgrade as it is for us. It would only be a good upgrade for the early '87 924S over there, it seems.

Ok is there a right place to post about this ?

Endeed... it's easier to find a 944 163cv 1:10.6 for swap instead of a 160hp or a 150hp...

The upgrade i know is the "155 9R" camshaft (944/924s 87-88) for 951 (what i'm going to do).
